Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, have urged Kanye West (now known as Ye), to get vaccinated against Covid-19 before planning to stage any music tour in the country.
The PM’s statements—made at a news conference—was aimed at countering a recent rumour that Ye intends to organise stadium concerts in Australia in March.
Recall that the Oceanian nation had come under the limelight two weeks ago after Tennis star – Novak Djokovic, had failed to vaccinate, leading to the cancellation of his Australian Visa. This implied that he was unable to participate at the recently concluded Australian Open, with a court upholding the government’s decision on the occasion.
Though Kanye West disclosed in a 2021 interview that he has received one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, his statements to Forbes business magazine two years ago—stating that the vaccine is ‘the mark of the beast’ has recently come under the radar.
Australian authorities will now monitor the situation in a bid to uphold their strict vaccination rules. The country recently recorded 195 deaths to Covid-19 in the space of two days, and has been on a battle to contain the recent wave of infections, and fast spreading Omicron variant.
Scott Morrison had also stressed the issue of placing everyone under the vaccination rules irrespective of their social status.
“The rules are you have to be fully vaccinated.
“They apply to everybody, as people have seen most recently. It doesn’t matter who you are, they are the rules. Follow the rules – you can come. You don’t follow the rules, you can’t,” he emphasised.
