Officials of Joe Biden’s administration have denied claims of an effort to fund the distribution of free crack pipes. This was announced shortly after the Republican lawmakers had openly kicked against the earlier reports.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the heads of the Department of Health and Human Services and Office of National Drug Control Policy, no efforts and funds will be used to harm American citizens.

“HHS and ONDCP are focused on using our resources smartly to reduce harm and save lives.

“Accordingly, no federal funding will be used directly or through subsequent reimbursement of grantees to put pipes in safe smoking kits,” they said.

Earlier, Senator Marsha Blackburn had reiterated the decision to stop passage of a government funding bill on a short-term until cogent points were tabled to show federal funds won’t be used to purchase drug paraphernalia.

She stated this in response to conservative reports of the Biden administration intending to buy and distribute ‘crack pipes’.

“U.S. taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund vending machines for crack pipes,” Blackburn stated.

However, further research shows the administration will seek to adopt a ‘harm-reduction program’.

In a joint statement by Xavier Becerra and Rahul Gupta of HHS and ONDCP respectively, the program’s main aim is to cater for provision of basic items needed to track drug traffickers and criminals across the country’s borders.

They said the program would be key in “providing naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and clean syringes, as well as taking decisive actions to go after violent criminals who are trafficking illicit drugs like fentanyl across our borders and into our communities.”

Recall that the POTUS fiscal budget for the year had grossed over $10 billion and included plans to “support research, prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery support services”.

Moreso, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is currently capable of funding harm reduction services, but won’t play any part in the purchase of needles or syringes, as stated by the agency in guidance for grantees.
