China has issued an ardent warning to the United States over Nancy Pelosi’s planned trip to Taiwan next month.
With sovereignty strategies employed by China towards Taiwan in recent times, Pelosi—the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives—will have to reconsider her intended visit which could anger Beijing and spark a possible military response.
A report filed by Financial Times cited several confirmations to the recent warnings; which is deemed stronger than previous threats by the Asian nation. Policies and actions taken by the United States on Taiwan have been negated by China.
U.S. President Joe Biden expressed skepticism and safety concerns over Nancy Pelosi’s intended trip to Taiwan after receiving private warnings from the CCP. Recall that the POTUS hinted on speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping before the end of this week.
‘I think that the military thinks it’s not a good idea right now but I don’t know what the status of it is,’ he said.
On Tuesday, China’s Foreign Ministry lashed out at the potential visit, saying it would “have a severe negative impact on the political foundation of China-US relations, and send a gravely wrong signal to ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces.”
“If the US insists on going down the wrong path, China will definitely take resolute and forceful measures to firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a news conference. “The United States must be fully responsible for all the consequences caused by this.”
Recently, the Chinese government have increased military activities on the shores of Taiwan; in a move to ensure they succumb to Chinese sovereignty, despite Taiwan’s democratic policy. The 23-million populated island has however resolved to defend itself against any offensive, stating its citizens will decide the fate of the nation.
