A Federal High Court in Edo State has remanded the former Scimitar bearer of the Oba of Benin – Mr. Roland Osagbaekhoe Omo-Ogbebor for charges on fraudulent activities.

During the seating in Benin City, Ogbebor was arraigned on three counts of fraud totalling a sum of thirty-one million naira (N31,000,000), under the deceit of selling plots of land to two unnamed persons in Okhuoromi village.

The details on land numbers were however left out during the arraignment.

This comes after the Oba of Benin released a statement through the Secretary of Benin Traditional Council, suspending Mr. Roland Osagbaekhoe Omo-Ogbebor from the Palace and from engaging in any Physical or Spiritual Palace activities.

Ibrahim Mohammed of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had urged the court to remand Ogbebor in a correctional centre custody, much to the disapproval of the defendant.

The presiding Judge Hon. Justice S.M Shuaibu accorded; after the EFCC counsel present informed the court that the commission lacked the wherewithal to accommodate Ogbebor in their custody.

The decision remained unwavering, despite the defendant’s counsel Chief M.I. Ukpebor requesting that his client remains in EFCC custody, rather than the proposed correctional centre.

The case was adjourned to 8th of March, 2022 when a hearing will be made on the filed application for defendant bail.
