Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Rotimi Akeredolu, and Kayode Fayemi of Lagos, Ondo and Ekiti States respectively, on Friday stormed Rivers State; holding a closed-door meeting with Governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt.

The three governors, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), were accompanied by Ayodele Fayose, the former Ekiti State governor, during the visit that saw them stop by Gov. Wike’s private residence; in what is seen as a strategic move.

Recent shenanigans surrounding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has seen Gov. Wike lose out in the presidential primary, before being dropped as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, and replaced by Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, for the 2023 elections.

Friday’s visit adds to a number of talks between Gov. Wike and members of opposing parties such as Ebonyi State governor Dave Umahi, Rabiu Kwakwanso and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate and flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP). Images of the trip have now gone viral on social media sparking speculations that the APC may be looking to reel in the Rivers State governor ahead of the election year.

Gov. Wike, who is known for his dexterity and vociferousness, is rumoured to be aggrieved with his party’s decision to snub his running intentions, and may be on the verge of teaming up with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC.

There are also talks that Gov. Wike cut his vacation in Turkey short to visit Tinubu in France some days ago. This has however been debunked by the APC camp.
