The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has invited music artiste Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, for questioning over alleged shootings at a club in Lagos.
According to reports, the afrobeat star’s police escorts opened fire on one Irebami Lawrence and Tolu on Wednesday last week at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos. The singer, who was present during the incident was also seen laughing to the ruckus, before heading to Spain shortly after.
Although, Burna Boy is yet to honour the invitation for an interrogation by the Force, there are strong claims that he will avail himself in the coming days. A media outlet stated that detectives have been assigned to fish out the singer; believed to be outside the shores of Nigeria.
An unnamed police source has now stated that five of the grammy-award winner’s escorts have been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command.
‘Already, five police escorts attached to the singer have since been arrested and are being detained at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja,’ the source claimed.
With netizens and several others airing their view on the incident at Club Cubana, many have criticized the happenings that day; faulting why it was reported by eyewitnesses rather than the police escorts involved. Recent revelations show that the headquarters of the Force at Abuja directly assigned all five police officers to the singer for his safety. They are currently being detained for attempted murder pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation into the shooting.
Nigerians will largely hope that this shooting instance will not be a case of trigger-happy officers, after recent reports of innocent victims who fell prey to fatal gunshots by gun-wielding cops in recent years.
