The people of Houston were front-rowed to a number of UFC bouts last night which climaxed as Israel Adesanya retained his UFC middleweight title.

With over 16,000 fans live at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, Israel Adesanya squared up against Aussie fighter Robert Whittaker; in a match which had brewed for three years.

In the early round, the title holder landed no less than 12 kicks; coupled with swift moves before dropping Whittaker in three minutes.

Whittaker’s intent of an immediate takedown ended futile; and faltered even more as Adesanya asserted his dominance in the ring.

The Aussie—who admitted the kicks hurt him—was seemingly undone by his aggressive uncalculated approach in the following minutes of the fight.

He almost got his breakthrough after taking down Adesanya in the second round, but suffered more kicks from the champion.

A noticeable gait by Adesanya had sprung Whittaker to life; with an almost successful submission lock by the contender. He quickly followed up minutes later with a low-blow trying to put himself at an advantage.

However, a very matured and effective performance by Israel Adesanya was enough to give him a unanimous victory on the night.

The fighter who retained his UFC 271 title is known for his kickboxing style and incomparable reach, which has made it difficult for other fighters to find clear attempts within his range.

Adesanya’s next opponent was decided during the match up between Jared Cannonier and Derek Brunson; number three and four fighters in the division respectively.

On the night, a third fight between Taiam Tuivasa and Derrick Lewis also took place, with the square-up living up to the hype.

Present during the fight was Booker T; a former WWE champion, and SteveWillDolt; a social media personality. Both had opted to attend the fight at Houston rather than the Super Bowl celebrations in California.
