A Russian frigate called the Admiral Makarov have been hit by Ukraine’s anti-ship missiles near Snake Island.
The incident which was first reported by Dumskaya, a Ukrainian media outlet, represents a major victory for Ukraine in the ongoing war.
According to extended reports, the vessel went up in flames and remains damaged, even though it has not sunk. Aircrafts and rescue ships have also been spotted by U.S Surveillance Drones in the area. This is according to OSINTdefender open source analysts.
Although the Kremlin has denied having any information on the happenings in the Black Sea, latest reports now show earlier rumours appeared to be true.
The major breakthrough comes after the United States provided military and intelligence aides to Ukraine to take down the Moskva. Nonetheless, Pentagon has watered down its direct involvement in Ukraine’s military decisions.
“We do not provide intelligence on the location of senior military leaders on the battlefield or participate in the targeting decisions of the Ukrainian military,” Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said earlier.
One of three of its kind, the Admiral Makarov was commissioned back in 2017 as an Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate, and was designed to counter both surface ships and submarines.
It was also an air-attack repeller.
Recall that the Snake Island was captured by the Russians prior to the strikes on Moskva and Admiral Makarov in the same location. The former had recorded casualties, with several crew members reported missing.
The Ukraine military claims to have sunk Russian vessels numbering up to ten since the war started; with the move seen as a key strategy to resist the Russian invasion.
There are also reports that Russia are looking to strike a major blow ahead of its Victory Day holiday on May 9.
